This privacy notice explains how AkinBrownPhotos (trading as akinbrownphotos.com, referred to as “we”) collects, stores and uses the personal data you provide when you use this website (the “Website”).
It sets out what information we collect, why we collect it and who we share it with. By using this site you agree to the practices described here. We use the personal information we collect to provide and improve my services; We will not use or share your information except as described in this notice. Terms used in this privacy policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions unless otherwise defined here.
1. Who we are
This site is operated by AkinBrownPhotos on behalf of www.akinbrownphotos.com. We control the way information is collected and used on this site. 2. Why this policy exists
Using tools like Google Analytics and Meta Pixel means this site collects information about how you use it, including data that may identify you. Under the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and similar laws, We're legally obliged to tell you what data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and how you can exercise your rights.
3. What data we Collect
We collect two kinds of information:
(1) Information you provide directly:
- When you subscribe to our newsletter or contact us via email, you may give us your name, email address or other personal details.
- If you purchase prints or services, we collect contact and payment details necessary to fulfil your order. Payments are processed by third‑party providers (e.g., Stripe or PayPal) and we never see your full card number.
(2). Information collected automatically:
- Usage data: pages you visit, links you click, time spent on the site, and the type of device and browser you use. Google Analytics sets cookies and similar technologies to collect this data; Google’s terms require me to disclose that we use cookies, describe how Google collects and processes data, and obtain consent where required Marketingplatform.
- Marketing/tracking data: Meta’s (Facebook) Pixel records your IP address, browser details, pages visited and actions like clicking on my posts. This data helps us understand which of our photos or articles resonate with people and, occasionally, to target ads. Regulatory guidance notes that advertisers using Meta Pixel are treated as data controllers and must obtain explicit consent before firing the pixel gdprlocal.com.
- Cookies: small text files stored on your device. Essential cookies keep the site running; analytics and marketing cookies are optional and set only if you consent. For information on controlling cookies, see Section 5.
4. How we use your data (purposes and legal bases)
We use your information for the following purposes, with the corresponding legal bases under the UK GDPR:
- Provide the site and services (e.g., process orders, send purchased items).
- Understand how people use the site via Google Analytics.
- Run marketing and measure the success of campaigns via Meta Pixel.
- Respond to enquiries (newsletter, contact emails).
- Comply with legal obligations (tax, accounting).
- Contract – necessary to perform a contract or take steps at your request.
- Consent – analytics cookies are not strictly necessary and require opt‑in consent termsfeed.comico.org.uk

- Legitimate interests – communicating with people interested in my work, balanced against the minimal data collected.
- Legal obligation – I keep transaction records as required by law.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use automated decision‑making or profiling in a way that has legal or similarly significant effects.
5. Cookies and tracking technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device. Some are essential – they enable the site to function (e.g., remembering your cookie preferences). Others are non‑essential and require your consent:
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics): help us see which pages are popular and improve the site. Google requires me to explain that it may set or read cookies to collect data such as your IP address, browser and device information, and that this data is processed in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Marketing cookies (Meta Pixel): track user behaviour across pages so we can measure the effectiveness of our posts and ads. Meta Pixel collects IP addresses and unique identifiers and sends them to Meta’s servers in the U.S. ; regulators warn that using the pixel without opt‑in consent and appropriate safeguards can breach GDPR gdprlocal.com.
6. Who we share data with
We share your data only with third parties that provide services necessary for running this site:
- Service providers: hosting companies, email service providers, payment processors and mailing software. They process your data solely under my instructions.
- Google Analytics: acts as our data processor. Usage data is sent to Google’s servers (which may be located outside the UK/EU). Google may also use the data anonymously for benchmarking and improving its own services.
- Meta Platforms, Inc.: receives tracking data via the Meta Pixel for ad targeting and analytics. Meta processes this data on our behalf, but as a data controller we remain responsible gdprlocal.com.
- Law enforcement or regulators: if required by law or to protect our rights, property or safety.
We do not allow these third parties to use your data for their own marketing purposes, and we have data‑processing agreements in place where required.
7. International transfers
Some of our providers (e.g., Google and Meta) are based outside the UK and European Economic Area. Their servers are in the United States and other countries. When your data travels outside the UK/EU, it is protected by standard contractual clauses and other measures that aim to provide a level of protection essentially equivalent to UK/EU law. Meta Pixel data is particularly sensitive because of the Schrems II ruling on U.S. surveillance gdprlocal.com; We monitor regulatory developments and will suspend use of the pixel if compliance becomes impossible.
- Subscriber emails: until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
- Order information: for six years after the end of the financial year in which the transaction took place, to comply with tax law.
- Analytics data: configured to retain aggregated data for 14 months, after which Google automatically deletes it.
- Marketing data: Meta Pixel data is retained according to Meta’s policies; we avoid retaining unnecessary events and minimise tracking scope.
9. Your rights
You have rights over your personal data under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR:
- Access – you can ask us to confirm whether we hold personal data about you and to receive a copy.
- Correction – you can ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion – you can request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal obligations.
- Objection – you can object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Withdrawal of consent – where processing relies on consent (analytics or marketing cookies), you can withdraw consent at any time via the cookie banner or by contacting us.
- Data portability – in some cases you can request a copy of your data in a machine‑readable format.
To exercise these rights, email hello@akinbrownphotos.com. We may ask for proof of identity to protect your privacy.
If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk or your local supervisory authority.
10. Children’s privacy
This site isn’t directed at children under 16. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we’ve inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us and we’ll delete it.
11. Updates to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the law, technology or our services. When we do, we’ll post the updated version here and update the “Last updated” date. If the changes materially affect how we handle your data, we’ll inform you via a notice on the site or via email.
