Àsàké Obìnrin

Asake obinrin. This series of portraits is a heartfelt exploration inspired by my many trips to Woolwich, each prompted by the irresistible pull of homesickness—a common side effect of Japa syndrome.

Asake Obinrin, a self-proclaimed moniker, embodies a distinctive style shaped by the eclectic influence of Afrobeat musician Asake, who, like a modern Basquiat, defies conventional norms. This project is a celebration of the resilience and adaptability of the African spirit. It resonates with the universal truth that no matter where life takes us, we carry the essence of home within us.
